You’ve probably heard the rumor that Cadillac may build a high-performance V version of its Escalade SUV.

Said to debut at the 2016 New York Auto Show and cost about $15,000 more than a standard model, the Cadillac Escalade V will reportedly get the supercharged 6.2-liter LT4 V8 engine from the Corvette Z06 – the same engine found in the Cadillac CTS-V.

With 640hp and 630lb-ft (853Nm) of torque, the Escalade V would become the most powerful SUV on the US market, dethroning the 600hp Bentley Bentayga.

Design-wise, the Cadillac Escalade V will likely feature the typical V treatment for the grille, sharper bumpers, a hood scoop, larger wheels and a lower ride height. The rendering from Photoshop artist Remco Meulendijk pretty much covers the changes.

What it doesn’t explain is why would anyone need a 640hp SUV that weighs as much as a tank.
