The press always struggled to rationalize the existence of models like this loud British giant with an appetite for corners and fuel, but the most important reason behind these cars is that they sell like hot cakes in the SUV-crazy era we are living in.
The amount of clever engineering that goes into them though is frankly astonishing. Land Rover forged a big SUV with the ability to lap the Nurburgring in 8 minutes 14 seconds, ignoring the laws of physics and scoring a lap time within 10 seconds of those achieved by much lighter cars like the Alfa Romeo 4C.
