The all-new Kia Sportage has officially made its debut at the Frankfurt motor show. It packs a completely new look, improved quality, technology and efficiency, as you would expect from a new crossover / compact SUV these days.

Styling-wise, we’ve discussed how it’s different to its predecessor and quite Germanic in its appearance, both inside and out. There’s even a GT version with visual enhancements as well as the promise of a sportier driving experience.

New tech worth mentioning includes the all-new 1.0-liter ecoTurbo petrol engine, a three-cylinder that debuts alongside a new seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. No word on how much power it makes, but it’s probably 100-ish hp and there will probably be more than one variation, if Ford is anything to go by, although Renault offers its similar power plant in a single output.

That’s available currently only on refreshed cee’d models equipped with the 1.6-liter CRDi diesel. Apparently, the gearbox can take up to 300 Nm of torque, and this should give you an idea of what its applications may be in the Kia range.
