A first look of of what’s likely to become its new mid-size crossover is Mazda’s main attraction at this year’s IAA.
The Koeru, which in Japanese translates as “exceed” or “go beyond”, will in due time become the new CX-7. Measuring 4.600 mm in length, 1.900 mm in width and 1.500 mm in height, it’s actually more of a low-slung crossover than an SUV.
Mazda itself seems to confirm this view, quoting a driver-focused suspension and steering along with optimized aerodynamics, NVH-suppressing technology and a smoother ride.
Styling-wise, it adopts the grille design that’s the company’s new signature and slim LED headlights that reach until that grille – whether we’ll see the latter in the finished product is questionable though.
In spite of the plastic cladding on the wheel arches, the sloping roofline and the low ground clearance give away its true character.
Unsurprisingly, under the bonnet the Koeru features a SKYACTIV engine. Even Mazda has not released any details yet, we expect the production car to be available with some of its fuel-efficient petrol and diesel units that already power the rest of its range.
