Mercedes-Benz has launched the sixth and, possibly, the most desirable member of the S-Class family. The open-top S-Class made its world premiere in Frankfurt today in both available variants – the Mercedes-Benz S 500 Cabriolet and Mercedes-AMG S63 4Matic Cabriolet.

The first roofless luxury four-seater from Mercedes-Benz since 1971, the S-Class Cabriolet features a multi-layer soft top, top-level technology from the S-Class and a sophisticated climate comfort concept.

Available in black, dark blue, beige and dark red, the three-layer acoustic soft top can be opened or closed while on the move up to a speed of 60 km/h (37 mph). Opening and closing take around 20 seconds. With the top up, Mercedes-Benz says it is the quietest convertible in the world. And with a cd figure of 0.29, the automaker claims it is also the aerodynamic benchmark in the segment.

The Mercedes-Benz S 500 Cabriolet is powered by 455PS (449hp) 4.6-liter biturbo V8 engine, while the Mercedes-AMG S63 4Matic Cabriolet gets a 585PS (577hp) 5.5-liter biturbo V8, which allows it to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 3.9 seconds.

“The new S-Class Cabriolet may not become our bestselling car, but I am certain it will be one of the most coveted. I think all these new products make it very clear that Mercedes-Benz is maintaining full-speed ahead,” said Mercedes-Benz CEO Dieter Zetsche.
