The old Volvo XC90 was a family oriented SUV, the first to cannibalize on MPV sales, offering more status, space and capability.
It obviously cost more than an MPV back in the days of the first-gen XC90, but with the premium image and safety credentials they were the go-to kid mover for middle income moms.
Now, the new XC90 puts more emphasis on luxury than before. Put it alongside the old generation and the areas where progress was made are immediately evident.
It is more expensive than before, though, rivaling in price with actual premium rivals, like the Mercedes GL or BMW’s X5, both established premium names.
KBB says you can still justify buying the Volvo, though, as it’s a unique proposition. The review posted below also suggests this new XC90 is the first Volvo to properly put the brand on the luxury map.
