Back in the day when computers made odd noises whenever someone was trying to “get on” the internet, car spotting was notoriously fun, as it is today.
In fact, there’s a Youtube channel dedicated to retro “Nürburgring touristenfahrten” videos – as they’re locally known. But viewing almost the same stuff found on every Nordschleife Youtube video, through a 20-year old camera lens is spectacularly eerie.
The same mistakes around the same corners, the same spotting locations and, basically, the same types of cars – only a little in tune with the times – proves that nothing has changed since then and makes this experience one of a kind. Drivers make the same mistakes, bystanders cheer whenever something remotely interesting happens and the track is brimmed with 911s.
It seems that filming courageous amateurs trying to conquer the Green Hell is an old practice that delights any action-hungry petrolhead. Admit it, you too like watching Nurburgring tourist days and seeing countless of fails and crashes.
Things got intensively updated in the world of motorsport to the point where technology changed the rules, the techniques and the overall approach of some disciplines. But it’s fun to see that track days have remained a silly fun way for daredevils to overcome what the circuit throws at them – or at least try.
Anyway, here are some videos for your enjoyment.
