Peugeot was on a roll at Frankfurt, showcasing its awesome concepts.
The latest and most intriguing study to bear Peugeot’s signature was the Fractal – an innovative “electric urban coupe” showcasing a tone of gadgets and features. In fact, Peugeot described it as an idea incubator, carrying lots of super-cool stuff that – one day – might be available on standard road cars.
The concept features an evolution of the Peugeot i-Cockpit, a sound signature created by sound designer Amon Tobin and 3D-printed parts representing more than 80 percent of the interior trim surface.
It looks the part too, boasting Peugeot’s use of two different materials on the body seen on other concepts (such as the 308 R HYbrid). But unlike the 308 R HYbrid, its design is more bold and over-the-top, combining a short-wheel-base convertible layout with a 2+2 low-roof coupe. It’s French design at its finest. According to Peugeot, the Fractal’s styling embodies the car’s ease in an urban environment, reflected by the dynamic lines that flow along the length of the body.
Well, its overall design is a little hard on the eye at first glance, but it becomes fascinating once you discover its details.
Naturally, as the trend requires, the Fractal is a hybrid, powered by two electric motors with a combined output of 202 hp. The power figure may seem insufficient, but the compact concept tips the scale at just 1,000 kg (2,205 lbs). Enough to make it sprint from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in 6.8 seconds and cover 1 km from a standstill in 28.8 seconds .
Oh, and thanks to a 30kWh lithium-ion battery housed in the central tunnel, it has an autonomy of 450 km (280 miles).
