Even if you’re not accustomed to American car culture, there’s a big chance you’ve heard about Richard Petty.
The man is a legend. A NASCAR legend, to be more precise.

He raced in the Stock/Grand National era of the sport and was nicknamed “The King”. As you may deduce, such an epithet doesn’t rise from standing around looking at cars or just commenting on them, but from racing the beasts and winning the NASCAR Championship seven times. Yup, he’s the Michael Schumacher of the NASCAR world; the Dale Earnhardt of the NASCAR World (this last one was a joke, please don’t stone me, Petty fans).

Anyway, as a retired racing legend, Petty didn’t shy too far away from automobiles and now owns a shop (used for building projects and bespoke cars) and a museum; because who wouldn’t want to own a Petty-built American car? Especially since the automobiles bear Petty’s cool blue color combo that he made famous by racing the Plymouth Superbird.

So, to make matters even more interesting, the man himself has donated a special-built, Petty-garage customized 2015 Ford Mustang GT for auction with the entire proceedings going to benefit the Paralyzed Veterans of America (PVA) non-profit organization. Racing driver, car nut and philanthropist? Now you know why he’s a legend.

Richard Petty has long supported the PVA, working to raise awareness and financial funding for the organization, and his donation of this Mustang continues that tradition.

The Mustang features a Roush TVS 2300 Supercharger with cold-air intake and Magnaflow exhaust. It also comes equipped with Petty-branded “Big Brake Kit” Wilwood six-piston front and four-piston rear brakes and Petty’s garage front and rear coil-overs.

But the car’s pièce de résistance is its exterior, sprayed in a custom two-tone Petty Blue and black paint job, complemented by Petty’s garage signature rear spoiler. Oh, and have you seen the 3-piece HRE VMC forged aluminum wheels?

The car is offered for sale – without reserve – by Mecum Auctions at the Dallas Auction in 16-19 September. Let’s just hope it will fetch a cool amount of cash.
