After producing 10 million 3-Series Sedans, BMW is letting us know that the ten millionth model is an Imperial Blue 320d, headed straight for a driving school in Eichstätt.

With the model having rolled off the assembly line at BMW’s Munich plant this month, the new owner got the chance to take possession of the car at BMW Welt where he was greeted by the factory workers who helped make the vehicle.

This 320d’s new owner is Xaver Bittl from Eichstätt, who just happens to own a driving school and has been a BMW customer for many years.

Bittl was congratulated personally by Hermann Bohrer, Head of the BMW plant in Munich, as well as by Helmut Kas, Head of BMW Welt Munich.

“The handover process is a unique experience for our customers. That was very evident today. The handover of the ten millionth BMW 3 Series Sedan is a special occasion for the company. We are delighted to have been able to provide the ideal setting for such an exclusive event,” said Mr Kas.

Whether this car will be used for teaching young drivers the ropes, or just by the owner of the driving school personally, remains to be seen – though don’t expect BMW to keep tabs on who does what with their new car.

Having recently received a facelift, the BMW 3-Series is still the company’s most successful model, with around 14 million vehicles sold in more than 130 countries.

Throughout the 3-Series’ history, the Munich site remains extremely important, since this is where each of the six generations has been manufactured, and of course where lucky customers come to have their car handed over to them.
