Toyota updated the smallest of their hybrids with the latest Safety Sense-C kit and added a new Persona Series special edition.
The MY2016 Toyota Prius C now comes with Pre-Collision System, Lane Departure Assist and Automatic High Beams which are all integrated into the Safety Sense-C array of electronic driver’s aids.
The new Persona Series special edition will be limited to 1,500 units and is offered exclusively in black, with the choice of two contrasting color accents, Electric Lime and Cherry Pearl. These accents apply to the lower front grille, under the headlights and the side windows, the exterior mirrors as well as the rear-view one.
While Toyota compares the paint-scheme to that of a customized supercar “driven by pro ballplayers” (seriously?), the outcome is somehow less special. A set of 15-inch black alloys and the obligatory “Persona Series” badge on the rear are the rest of the changes for this limited Prius C version.
The compact hybrid uses a 73hp 1.5-litre petrol engine that works on the Atkinson cycle combined with an electric motor to produce a total of 99hp via a CVT gearbox. Thanks to that, the EPA-estimated fuel economy is rated at 53mpg with the ability to be driven solely by electric power for under a mile and for speeds of up to 25mph under certain conditions.
