RCN stands for Rundstrecken Challenge Nurburgring, but the latter stands for accidents waiting to happen. There are plenty of reasons why they’re calling it the ‘Green Hell’.

Thankfully, these two videos feature a near-miss and not a wipe-out type of accident, which is what the action was leading up to if the driver (our main protagonist here) didn’t have great reflexes and excellent awareness of what was going on around him.

We also get two separate camera angles, which help put together the pieces rather nicely. In short, what we see is that as the cars are approaching T1 while racing past the pit-lane straight and the E46 (M3?) driver is about to turn into the corner, a BMW M235i comes flying out of nowhere.

In order to better understand what happened, we need to check out the second video which shows how everything unfolded through the “eyes” of the rear-mounted camera. It’s not very wide angle as you can see, but you’ll still be able to notice how the M235i approaches at a very high speed on the inside of the corner, completely missing its braking point and almost wiping out another car in the process.

Unfortunately we don’t get to see what happened to the M235i once it leaves our field of view, and that short run-off area looked mighty intimidating – hopefully he managed to use the gravel trap to his advantage in slowing down the car before hitting the wall.

All in all, this is a perfect example how focus and awareness can help keep you safe from other drivers when racing. And yes, experience and quick reflexes are also a must.
