The Ariel Nomad is a singular offering currently – you really can’t buy anything that’s even remotely similar; the closest is another Ariel, the Atom, with which it shares much of its chassis.
However, it has a good deal more ground clearance, special springs that offer a soft ride on the road and lots of travel off it and a punchy Honda engine in the back. With 235 hp, a close ratio six-speed manual gearbox and a weight of 670 kg dry it should prove very fast over loose surfaces.
The one featured in the Drive video below and driven by Steve Sutcliffe has all the possible features fitted from the factory. It’s the most capable Nomad you could buy and it even comes with a built-in winch whose value in such a vehicle could never be overstated.
Sutcliffe challenges a slightly mad motocross rider to give the Nomad a challenge, and what ensues is a rather spectacular chase.
