Chevrolet is trying to appeal to hot-hatch fans by bringing a muscle-hatch to SEMA.

Even though it carries a Chevy badge, the Spark isn’t quite an all-American product. In fact, it’s a five-door, small-displacement, city car produced by GM-Korea and it’s the successor of the Daewoo Matiz. Attributes that don’t necessarily make-it a good base for a hardcore, mean machine and yet, here’s one.

Granted, this “RS” variant is only a concept (at least for now) meant to be displayed at SEMA (alongside the visually-enhanced, Red Line concepts) and it’s brimmed with awesome accessories from top to bottom. It rolls on 17-inch, Corvette-inspired wheels, while a lowered suspension gives it an aggressive stance. The car’s exterior is enhanced with a very subtle carbon-fiber body kit, which includes a front splitter, rocker extensions and a rear-lower extension.

It seems that every “RS” badge completely transforms a car into an aggressive-looking, harder version of the standard offering, as Todd Parker, director of design, Global Chevrolet stated:

“Every Chevrolet has the DNA of the Corvette and the Spark RS concept shows how the brand’s smallest car can deliver big on personalization. It advances the RS heritage and interprets it in an entirely new way.”

Mind you, Chevrolet didn’t mention any engine-upgrades, but we can’t imagine this pocket-rocket boasting the same factory-stock 98 hp power output from its 1.4-litre engine.

The Spark RS concept is the result of a collaboration between Chevrolet’s design team in North America and Korea, and the car manufacturer will use it to measure the public opinion regarding a possible production variant.
