Whether or not they call it the Superb Outdoor or the Scout, a more rugged version of Skoda’s all-new flagship might actually appeal to a lot of people.
Right off the bat, you have your caravan crowd in the UK where Skoda has already secured a Caravan Club Towcar award this year thanks to the Octavia Estate Scout. Since the Passat Variant also won in its particular category, customers would probably be forced to consider a larger, more modern version of the Octavia, namely the new Superb.
In order for this type of car to be successful, it has to feature punchy yet economical engines, which Skoda does still utilize, despite recent events. So yes, a 2.0 liter TDI engine should do just fine as long as it comes with at least 150 PS. The 1.6 liter 120 PS TDI engine would definitely not match the character of a potential Superb Scout.
In terms of appearance, most people already agree that the new Superb (both Sedan & Estate) is a pretty good-looking car. Making it look more “capable” should be a good thing, though thanks to its particularly elegant design, some might still prefer the standard version of the Estate.
As for this rendering, well, we’re looking at the usual suspects in terms of mods. There’s a slightly reworked front bumper featuring silver-colored guards, and of course you’ve got the extended wheel arches which are a must on any and all Scout/All-Road-type Estates found in the VW Group.
Bottom line, if Audi can make a really handsome A6 Allroad out of an elegant car, then Skoda should be able to replicate that recipe. It doesn’t mean that it will ever outsell the regular Superb Estate, but it could win over plenty of people.
