G-Power’s 740 PS (729 hp) BMW M6 proves that the Bavarian twin-turbocharged S63 V8 engine is a versatile and amazing piece of equipment. So why stop there?
Knowing it can squeeze quite a lot of power from the powerplant, the German tuner locked its abilities on the X5 M and had its way with the big brute. Mind you, it didn’t turn the engine’s capabilities all the way to 11, but many will agree that the “tamed” 700 PS (689 hp) and 905 Nm (667 lb-ft) of torque approach would suffice in a “sporty” 2403 kg (5299 lb-ft) SUV.
This sheer amount of grunt is primarily achieved thanks to the G-POWER Bi-Tronik 5 performance module or the Bi-Tronik 2 bespoke remapping of the factory ECU, both of which have their individual advantages – according to G-Power. Basically, the tuner offers two choices of ECU remapping, each with a unique throttle response and power delivery.
Debilitating backpressure of the standard exhaust system is required in order to achieve the advertised power figures, but G-Power makes it possible by installing flow-optimized downpipes made from stainless steel that are equipped with 200-cell racing catalysts.
And to put all the power to good use, the tuner also offers the possibility to delete the top speed restriction of the behemoth; although it doesn’t specify the exact number, G-Power says the Motorsport-branded SUV is able to achieve a top speed “that is in accordance to its power output”.
G-Power reserved it’s expertise for the performance upgrades only, leaving the X5 M’s factory design almost intact (yes, the car is a looker straight from the box). It did however installed a set of the latest-gen 23-inch Hurricane forged wheels, which are the lightest and strongest aluminum wheels in the tuner’s history. And they also look stunning.
