Speed management and driver safety experts over at the Road Angel Group are announcing their Halo dashcam with built-in parking protection, meant to capture footage specifically when the car is left unattended.
The way this works is that the Halo begins recording out of both the front and the rear windows as soon as it senses a shock or any type of unfamiliar motion. Users can then play back the footage and see what happened to their cars, as the video file can then be filed as evidence.
According to Carys Kerr from the Road Angel Group, “Parking protection means that if your vehicle is damaged when it’s parked up, you can use the video footage to identify and bring the guilty person to justice and avoid claiming on your insurance or paying for the repairs yourself.”
If you’ve ever found your car damaged without knowing what happened, you’re probably nodding your head in agreement with that statement, though such a system would bring peace of mind even to those who’ve never had to experience such a frustrating event.
In order for the system to recognize that the car has been left unattended, the Halo must be hardwired directly to the car’s battery. By doing so, it automatically engages “parking mode” when the ignition is switched off while only using a small percentage (unspecified) of the car’s battery to power up and record any movement.
Thankfully, there’s also a built-in power management system which ensures your car’s battery is never drained while the Halo is “on the job”. The Halo films for 15 seconds before and 15 seconds after a motion/shock is detected, which should be enough for you and the police to identify exactly what happened and who’s responsible.
The cameras used have a wide field of view (150°) as both the front and rear footage is recorded in High Definition directly to the included SD memory card. As for the specs, you’re looking at a 1280 x 720p resolution for the front camera, and 640p x 480p for the rear facing camera. It also has a built-in G Sensor, GPS with Google Maps, voice and sound alerts, sound recording and a 12-month warranty.
The Halo retails for £199.
