Following the launch of the VFII Commodore sedan and wagon, the Ute has received similar updates, highlighted by the new LS3 V8 engine.
Unveiled at the 17th annual Deniliquin Ute Muster event in Australia, the Holden VFII Ute gets the new 6.2-liter LS3 V8 engine rated at 408hp and 570Nm (420lb-ft) of torque. With this new unit, the VFII Ute sprints from 0 to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.9 seconds, making it the quickest Commodore Ute in history (excluding HSV versions).
The VFII Ute also features a new sound package comprised of a bi-modal exhaust, a patent pending Holden designed “Baillie Tip” and a mechanical sound enhancer. Range-topping SSV Redline versions add Brembo brakes on all four wheels which deliver braking performance good enough for the racetrack.
Speaking of the racetrack, Holden says the Commodore VFII Ute boasts “exceptional refinement and handling” thanks to extensive tuning work done at Holden’s Lang Lang proving ground and test rides across Victoria.
Besides these technical upgrades, the VFII Ute gains a fresh look with reshaped fascia ducts and hood vents, as well a range of new wheel designs.
“It’s a perfect demonstration of how Holden understands the unique needs of Australian ute drivers who want a functional car for the week but with the added performance and character for an engaging weekend drive,” said Rob Trubiani, Holden’s Lead Dynamics Engineer.
The new Commodore Ute goes on sale in October in Australia, with Holden anticipating “extremely strong” demand for the V8 variant.
