Honda has chosen next month’s 2015 SEMA Show to give us a first look at their next-gen Ridgeline pickup truck-SUV combo through a concept prior to a market launch in 2016.
The study is named the Ridgeline Desert Race Truck, and according to the Japanese carmaker, it will “showcase the design direction” of the production model, while also signaling Honda’s return in factory off-road racing under its Honda Performance Development (HPD) motorsports arm.
We’ll have to wait for an official picture / teaser as the above sketch is an earlier rendering of the 2017 Ridgeline released during this year’s Chicago Auto Show. The production Ridgeline will be based off the new and notably lighter 2016 Pilot (read our first drive here) using the same 280-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 direct-injection engine coupled to either a 6-speed automatic or the new 9-speed automatic transmission.
Joining the concept at Honda’s SEMA display will be four, tuned HR-V project vehicles, accessorized versions of their 2016 CR-Z hybrid coupe and 2016 Pilot SUV, and a selection or racing motorcycles and cars.
