Russia’s second best-selling car, the Hyundai Solaris, is the one millionth car produced at the automaker’s plant in Saint-Petersburg.
The production milestone has been achieved less than five years after the plant started operating in January 2011. The anniversary vehicle was a Solaris, which is the name used for the Accent sedan on the Russian market.
Hyundai celebrated the production milestone at the plant with the Governor of Saint-Petersburg Georgy Poltavchenko, as well as Hyundai Motor customers, dealers and employees.
“We have reached an impressive milestone of producing one million cars just within five years of our start of production. For the plant’s products to meet high quality standards and become best sellers on the market, we have achieved stable and efficient production lines,” said Choi Dong Ryeol, the General Director of Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Russia (HMMR).
HMMR is one of the largest car manufacturers in Russia, producing 200,000 vehicles annually. The plant is equipped with modern automation industry machineries including 185 robots and has created approximately 7,000 jobs in the region. The Saint-Petersburg plant reached 46 percent of localization with collaboration from local suppliers.
The Hyundai Solaris is available in Russia with 107hp 1.4-liter and 123hp 1.6-liter petrol engines, offered with either 6-speed manual/4-speed automatic transmissions for the smaller engine or 6-speed manual/6-speed automatic transmissions for the larger engine.
