The Cadillac CTS-V wasn’t lacking in sheer grunt, but we can’t imagine someone saying “no” to a more potent variant.
Featuring a 640 hp, Corvette-derived, LT4 V8 mill, the CTS-V is an outstanding, four-door muscle car that shadows its rivals – power-wise, at least. For example, the toughest, meanest Mercedes-Benz E-Class – the E63 AMG S model – has 577 hp to its name, which is 63 less than Caddy’s super-saloon.
So, when will the horsepower war stop? Which car manufacturer will put an end to it? Well, not Cadillac, apparently, as Automobile Magazine’s undisclosed company source says:
“The Cold War continues. I don’t know where it stops, but it’s not at 640 hp, that’s for sure.”
So, it appears Cadillac hasn’t got a limit at all. As the current competition will eventually spawn more powerful products, Cadillac needs to remain one step ahead, “on top of the game”.
For now, the CTS-V draws its juice from a 640 hp and 630 lb-ft of torque 6.2-litre supercharged V8, while aided by Brembo brakes, magnetic suspension, active handling, an electronic limited-slip diff and carbon fiber bits and pieces. So, one can only imagine what kind of monster can the American car manufacturer spawn next.
Still, it’s too early to talk about a substantial power-upgrade, as the CTS-V is a new model – compared to its main rivals – which are headed for an overhaul in the near future. In fact, let’s just wait and see if the Germans will play Cadillac’s little game first.
