Although the German car manufacturer hasn’t confirmed anything about a possible 911 R-inspired, GT3-powered 991, this render depicting a current-gen 911 with retro style cues has surfaced the internet.

And yes, it’s believed to be the unicorn-car which Porsche will allegedly make (in a limited run between 600 and 800 units) for its hardcore fans. Rumors say it will be called the 911 R – as a tribute to the original lightweight 901 911 R – and powered by a GT3-spec flat-six, mated to a manual gearbox to please the aficionados.

In fact, it sounds too good to be true, and the blurred sketch drawing isn’t making life easier for us. Sporting a nice, clean body – without any aerodynamic appendages – the rendered 911 gives away its GT3-roots by adopting the recognizable GT3-spec, center-lock wheels (we were expecting some Fuchs wheels, but still).

It also appears to have the beefier, flared body-style, found on the GT3 RS and the 911 Turbo, while the retro-look is emphasized by the green stripes and side “Porsche” decals. Although it doesn’t adopt a ducktail spoiler, it has a bulge – instead of the regular wing – which probably channels air the much-needed air to the engine.

The render, while accurately depicting the speculations regarding the 911 R, remains – just like the car – unconfirmed. At least for now. Still, if all turns out to be true, we’ll undoubtedly see more of this amazing concept as the days pass.
