28 year old Juve star Martin Caceres has been suspended by the club after crashing his Ferrari 458 Italia on Monday night while under the influence of alcohol.
Before we get into any specifics, it’s worth saying that this is the second time a Juventus player has crashed a Ferrari 458 this year. Previously it was Arturo Vidal (now with Bayern Munich) who was unfortunate enough to damage his Italian exotic pretty badly near Santiago, Chile.
Caceres however was over the alcohol limit when his 458 crashed into parked cars and a bus shelter in Turin, which prompted the club to suspend him and say that his behavor was a “gross violation of his responsibilities as a Juventus player”.
Italian publication Gazzetta World claims that the player was also fined €1,000 euros after tests showed that he was over the alcohol limit.
So what do we think, should the club have suspended him for being so irresponsible? Certainly yes. Getting behind the wheel of a car that will hit 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.4 seconds, while intoxicated, shows really poor judgement. Though it’s unclear just how much he had to drink, it’s safe to assume it was enough for him to lose control of the car.
To make matters worse, crashing into a bus shelter can have tragic consequences. Thankfully the accident took place in the early hours of Tuesday morning and nobody was there to get hurt.
