Going “beyond” is mostly seen as a good thing in the automotive industry, since when it comes to cars, there’s no such thing as thinking too far ahead.
Does this mean that the Lexus NX SUV will really take you beyond utility? Well, it could, as long as you appreciate its boot space and its appearance (or striking design as Lexus puts it). Aesthetically speaking, the NX does stand out more than most of its rivals and that’s all well and good.
However, does it really take you beyond performance and beyond innovation? Reviews seem to suggest otherwise. Neither the 2.0 liter 235 HP turbocharged version nor the Hybrid model will feel particularly sporty, especially compared to its premium European rivals. The NX does indeed feel refined to drive, but beyond performance is certainly a place where it’s not taking you any time soon.
The touchpad tech does feel pretty snappy to use once you get accustomed to it and the interior as a whole is a very pleasant place to sit.
So yes, it looks good and it’s got some nice gear inside but that’s just nailing 2 characteristics out of 4 as far as what Lexus is saying in this commercial.
Anyway, if a fashionable compact premium SUV is what you’re after, the NX is certainly worth considering. The fact that it’s cheaper to purchase (in some markets such as US & the UK) than most of its direct rivals is also a very good thing.
