This girl is on fire. Well, in the past two years the term applied to the brand’s stellar rise; not anymore, but this is more serious than dropping sales figures.
Maserati North America is recalling certain 2014 MY Quattroporte cars sold in the US due to a fire hazard. Campaign No 15V686000, issued by the NHTSA, affects 984 Quattroporte GTS V8 models manufactured between October 1, 2013 and December 31, 2013.
In said vehicles, the insulating cap of the battery positive cable for the alternator and starter motor may have been improperly installed or the cable itself may not be secured in the engine bay.
This can result to the cable shorting to the ground, which in turn can overheat the wiring and cause a fire, or stall the engine and possibly lead to a crash if the car is moving.
Dealers will inspect the vehicles and check if the protective cap is installed correctly and the cable secured and, if not, replace the cable.
The recall will commence on November 11. Owners will be notified by Maserati, but they can also reach its customer service at 1-201-816-2600 (citing recall number 279), the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.safercar.gov.
