Mercedes wants to established that the GLA is a highly versatile automobile, by saying that it will shatter one’s expectations in its latest spot.
Just to recap what makes it so versatile, well, it’s got a relatively small footprint in terms of size, which means that its compact dimensions will come in handy if you live in a very crowded concrete jungle. In spite of that, the interior is quite generous in size and exceptionally well equipped to handle even the most tech-savvy customers.
While US buyers can choose between three versions of the GLA (basically just two engine configurations), in Europe you can make five extra engine configurations. Apart from the 250 and 45 AMG models, EU customers also get the 180 d, 200 d, 220 d, 180 and the 200 – where of course some also come with the 4MATIC all-wheel drive system.
On the road it feels poised, equally competent in traffic as it is on the highway or even on those tough roads less traveled.
In the US, the entry-level GLA 250 (comically called an SUV) starts at $32,500 MSRP, while the 4MATIC version goes for $34,500. In return you get a 2.0 liter inline 4-cylinder engine, good for 211 PS and 349 Nm (258 lb-ft), able to get you to 100 km/h in just 7.1 seconds (7.2 sec for FWD model).
The top of the range GLA 45 AMG version (now actually called the Mercedes-AMG GLA 45 4MATIC) is of course a heck of a lot quicker thanks to its 381 PS. It will reach 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 4.4 seconds and costs upwards of $49,580 MSRP.
