These tablet-controlled mini-drones look quite fun, but it’s not really clear who they’re aimed at. They seem a bit too complex for kids, but with without a physical dedicated control method, an RC aficionado would probably shun them.
The system is called Drone’n’Base and if you can live with the tablet control, then you’ll be able to enjoy multiplayer gameplay with friends. You can shoot at them (think laser tag) or race them around, or you can play capture the flag, a game mode familiar to first-person shooter fans.
Each drone can remain airborne for up to 7 minutes on one charge and you connect your device to it via Bluetooth, which in this case is version 4.0. In the box you also get a multiple battery charger (charges up to four batteries at once) and you can swap them out quickly to continue playing.
There’s also a training mode where you can practice flying and shooting at a target, as well as absolutely no reason not to introduce additional ways of playing in the future.
