Tesla has finally revealed the production version of the Model X, so we can now steer our efforts towards speculating about the upcoming Model 3. We’ve been following the breadcrumb trail regarding its creation, and it looks like it’s set to end in China, in 2017.
Teslarati (which quotes a local tech news site) says Elon Musk was recently in China where gave a speech at the Tsinghua University. There, he reportedly confirmed to the students present that the sub-Model S sedan will be manufactured in the PRC too.
Apparently, Tesla will set up factories (yes, plural) in China, although these may merely provide components, while actual cars will be assembled at a single location.
The source also provides what could possibly be the first look at the upcoming Model 3. It appears to be a clay model and the photo is a screenshot from the Australian version of “60 Minutes.”
