Nissan has donated two electric Leafs to The Ohio State University’s Center for Aviation Studies, where they will serve as means of transportation from the main campus to the university’s airport.
OSU is one of the most prestigious universities in the United States, while also having the third largest campus in the country. Getting around on foot can be a bit difficult, especially if you have to run around a lot between buildings. The university also comes with its own public airport, which is easily one of the coolest features any university can have, don’t you agree?
This donation comes after five fast chargers were added in and around Columbus, Ohio as part of Nissan’s EV Advantage Program – aiming to enhance the charging infrastructure landscape throughout the US. Using these chargers, the Leaf can “fill” itself up to 80% in about 30 minutes, which is still a pretty solid achievement.
The Center for Aviation Studies and the OSU have also installed two chargers at the airport, to better serve the campus-airport shuttle service.
“With the addition of these Nissan LEAF electric vehicles and fast chargers, Ohio State and the Columbus area have quickly become EV-friendly communities,” said Andrew Speaker, Nissan EV Sales & Marketing exec. “These LEAF vehicles not only fulfill a transportation need, but they also allow students and faculty to experience firsthand the benefits of going electric, including LEAF’s lower operating costs and fun-to-drive nature.”
Seth Young, director at the Center for Aviation Studies added that “More than 100 students each semester make the 16-mile round trip multiple times weekly as they transit from their classes on campus to their flight courses, research activities and jobs at the airport. The LEAFs will be a tremendous benefit to our students and staff.”
This is a great initiative by Nissan and these Leafs are looking pretty flashy with the tinted windows and the alloys wheels. Who knows, maybe they even feature the 7-speaker BOSE audio system inside.
