Proton is trying to look like it means business with a concept four-door pickup it revealed at the Alami Proton event in Malaysia. Said to possibly be based on the Exora people carrier, it really looks nothing like that and in fact its inspiration is far more… American.
According to Paultan, present at the event, the vehicle also featured the same interior as the Exora as well as a general profile not too dissimilar to that of a SsangYong Actyon.
If built in any form similar to this, the unnamed concept truck would be one of the rare breed of monocoque vehicles of this sort – the only bigger one is the Honda Ridgeline.
The source says company officials didn’t say whether they were planning on making a production version of this. The head of design, Azlan Othman, explained the motivation behind its creation. He says “it’s very simple. Looking at how successful the Jumbuck (the Arena in Australia) was, there’s no reason for us not to look at segments where we were once profitable.”
