The Renault 5, even in the later Turbo 2 configuration, would still look like an inexplicably wide and noisy city car to most people.
But it isn’t that at all and it was actually the second series of these mid-engined beasts that Renault produced. The Turbo 1 was the actual homologation special that it needed to make to go racing, while the Turbo 2 was a refining (and slight toning down) of that formula in every respect.
Yes, some race-spec components were lost in the quest for cost, but according to Davide Cironi (the guy in the video), all you really feel when driving it is Group B pedigree.
He drives the car in the (Italian language) video posted below (with subitltes) and seems hugely impressed by the car’s characteristics.
