For the first time ever, Switzerland-based Rinspeed will celebrate a world premiere outside its home country.
The company’s hybrid sports car „Ʃtos“ will debut at the CES 2016 in Las Vegas, because “the major and especially the disruptive innovations in future automotive engineering will come from the digital realm,” Rinspeed boss Frank M. Rinderknecht explains.
While the juicy details are being kept for the world premiere at CES 2016 (January 6-9, 2016), Rinspeed said that the Ʃtos is a driverless car which features an intuitive, adaptive autopilot capable of learning.
One of the most interesting features of the concept car is the adaptable interior. In autonomous mode, the steering wheel folds up and retracts completely into the dashboard. At the same time, the two curved widescreens individually move closer to the occupants to provide a better view.
The Rinspeed Ʃtos is equipped with Harman Connected Car technologies. The infotainment system is said to operate just like a personal assistant, “in a thinking, courteous and anticipatory manner.”
An unusual feature of the concept car is the drone that has its own landing pad on the rear end. What is it for, you may ask? Rinspeed says it can be used to “fetch a bouquet of flowers the driver ordered online and even deliver it directly to the lucky recipient.” Or it could take a video “of the wild ride on the favorite fun road and stream it live to friends.”
Finally, the Ʃtos features special innovative surface finishes “that are still completely alien to car designers.”
