If everything works right for Toyota and the fuel cell technology, the Mirai could be remembered decades from now as the car that kick-started the hydrogen revolution.
Toyota has started rolling out the Mirai in markets around the world, including Australia, where Car Advice had the opportunity to give it a go.
However, it was more of a test ride than test drive, as the reviewer was sitting in the passenger seat while Toyota Australia senior product planner Mark Dobson was driving.
As we’ve seen from a previous review, the Mirai is just as silent as smooth as an electric car to drive, since essentially it is an electric car. The big difference is it sources electricity from hydrogen and not from a battery pack. From this derives a big advantage (filling the tanks takes just 3 minutes), but also a setback – at least for the moment, the refueling infrastructure for hydrogen fuel cell cars is in its very early days.
