If you want to know the specifics of how Volvo’s low-speed autonomous driving system works, then this video is what you’re looking for. It doesn’t get into detailed technical specs, focusing instead on how everything works and just how much input the driver is still required to provide.

It basically works like the Autopilot you now find on the Tesla Model S, with the difference that it only works below 30 mph or 48 km/h. Under that speed, it offers pretty much the exact same functionality as the Tesla system, from what we understand so far.

Tesla seems to be offering the more advance system here, and it’s currently the only one available on any car that will steer for you at highway speeds plus all the other stuff we’ve come to expect, which already allows you to not touch the pedals (even at highway speeds).

The Americans are clearly looking to impress here, whereas Volvo with its famed safety record is taking things slowly, although its claims for the near future are certainly more ambitious than anything Tesla has ever announced.
