You’ll forgive us for not being 100 percent sure, but we’re a smidge above 99 percent sure that what our friend Maciej spied here is a hybrid tester for the new BMW 7-Series.
“I noticed this strange car while walking the streets of Munich, Germany,” Maciej told Carscoops. “Well Munich is a HQ of BMW, so one thing is clear – it’s BMW”.
Yes, that’s right Maciej – we’ll add that the hybrid stickers are a dead giveaway for the powertrain type, but as often happens with German carmakers these days, a tape measure and a reference point always come in handy to tell one model from another…
Nevertheless, and aside from looking bigger than the next-gen 5-Series testers on the outside, the wider center console and the placement as well as the style of the start-button on the dashboard inside, confirm that’s it’s a 7-Series.
News junkies will know that BMW has already announced and presented the 740e xDrive plug-in hybrid, but it won’t go for sale until early next year, so our guess is that the Bavarians are either continuing to test the car or they’re tossing the keys of older prototypes to their employees for a ride back home.
As a reminder, the 740e xDrive plug-in hybrid pairs a 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged gasoline engine to an electric motor and an 8-speed automatic transmission with a system output of 326PS (322hp). The hybrid luxo-barge can run on battery power alone for up to 23 miles (37km) at speeds of up to 75mph (121 km/h).
A tip of the hat to Maciej S. for the spy shots!
