Volkswagen has given the 2016 Passat a new look, some new technology and now some new prices.
The base Passat 1.8T S will start at $22,440, before destination charge, VW of America announced today, claiming a savings of $1,315 over last year’s base model. Highlights include the new infotainment system with USB ports (finally!) and Android Auto and Apple CarPlay included.
Automatic climate control is now standard, as are 16-inch aluminum wheels. Fuel economy for the 1.8T is now up to 38 mpg highway, according to VW. A backup camera is now standard on all Passats, with adaptive cruise control and emergency braking standard on every model but the S.
A sportier R-Line model is new for the 2016 Passat. Starting from $23,975, it gets a revised front bumper and exterior trim, with 19-inch wheels.
The top-of-the-line Passat SEL Premium with the 3.6-liter, 280 horsepower VR6 engine comes in at $36,835. A Lighting Package, available from $1,095, is available on all models and includes LED headlamps, among other niceties.
