In spite of what you might expect due to recent events, VW actually recorded better sales this September compared to 2014. Granted, the increase is the opposite of huge, coming in at 0.56 percent extra, and if you look at the models individually it’s not (at) all good news…
The Golf was down a whopping 36.8 percent compared to 2014, dropping from 1,887 to 1,193 units sold. VW says the ‘Golf family’ did well last month, although that’s due in part to the fact that the Golf R, e-Golf and Golf SportWagen were not available in September of 2014 and they are now.
In fact, the only car in the ‘Golf family’ that actually had better sales was the GTI, of which they sold 14.1 percent more, up from 1,600 to 1,825 units shifted.
The ‘Jetta family’ (comprised of regular sedan and SportWagen) noted a 24.1 percent drop in September of this year, selling just 7,773 units compared to the 10,245 they sold in 2014.
The only real outstanding performer here is the Tiguan, as September sales rose 77.5 percent over 2014 – from 1,674 to 2,972. Oh, and the Eos did well too, with a 64.8 percent increase, although that’s not saying much since even with the boost it only racked up 356 sales.
