Here we have the first official teasers of Fiat’s new Mazda MX-5-based 124 Spider in the form of two digital postcards shared on the maker’s social media pages.
The first one is accompanied by the message “We’re heading out on a journey with a surprise ending. Follow along to see what you’re missing”, while the second one reads, “Viva Espana! It’s time to take our precious cargo across the Atlanic. Gracias and adios!”, both paired to the hash tag “#FIATFOMO”.
And yes, that’s a typo there as it should read ‘Atlantic’, with the new Italian roadster to cross over to the West Coast to make its world premiere at the Los Angeles Motor Show on November 17.
Images of the 2017 Fiat 124 without any camouflage have already broken through the internet revealing a familiar 2016 Mazda MX-5 shape with differentiated front and rear ends.
Fiat has kept quiet on details, but we suspect that the Italian brand’s 1.4-liter turbocharged Multiair petrol engine cranking up to 200hp will be available on the base model, with Alfa’s 1.75-liter turbo four producing 240hp to likely power the Abarth iteration.
