Ford latest patent application reveals the car maker’s plans to include “puddle lights with status display” in future hybrids and EV cars.
Mind you, this is no ordinary ambient lighting with the car manufacturer’s badge showing-up on the ground, but instead the technology apparently displays various information regarding the vehicle’s charge status. Yes, the American car manufacturer has patented a feature that will make tech fans enjoy checking the charge status on their electric cars.
Generally, puddle lights – like their name suggest – are a class of exterior ambient lights that can be inserted to the undersides of the door handles or side mirrors so that they illuminate the ground underneath and the immediate surroundings.
Ford’s idea retains the original functionality, but also adds its own touch by displaying the status of the drive battery on a surface (which may include projections on a surrounding building or ceiling), before the driver enters the vehicle. You can check the patent application here.
