Ford has recorded 101,598 65-plate registrations during the months of September and October in the UK, increasing its sales lead across all sectors.

According to the SMMT (Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders), not only is Ford the UK’s market leader in total vehicle sales, but the Fiesta is a UK best-seller, and the Transit Custom and Transit are first and second respectively in commercial vehicle sales.

As for a UK overall Top 20, we’re looking at five different Ford models, with the Focus (4th) and Kuga (18th) joining the Fiesta and the two previously mentioned Transit versions.

Ford of Britain chairman and managing director Andy Barratt pointed out that Ford is “building on the strength of its core models in the UK market, while stretching into new segments with models such as Mustang, Mondeo Vignale and Ford Edge. Fiesta is in its seventh year as the UK market leader, while the success of our extended Ford CV family is demonstrated by Transit range sales exceeding those of any car – apart from Fiesta. Our strong results are a direct result of the wider range of these exciting new models – delivered through our dealer partners, who make up the strongest network in the UK.”

SMMT official figures show that total car sales in October were down 1.1% compared to the same month last year, while Ford sales were 22,081 (6,190 registrations ahead of its nearest rival). Through 2015 (end October) total UK car sales were 2,272,550 – with 290,409 Ford sales, some 62,418 registrations ahead of the competition.

Ford is also a leader in retail car sales, with a share of 12,3% for the year to date – a lead of 4.2%.

The Fiesta had a solid month of October with 8,577 registrations, but a total of 116,631 for the year to date, which gives it the edge over its rivals by a significant margin. As for the commercial vehicles, though sales in October were down compared to 2014 for the entire UK, Ford CV numbers were up 10.9%.

Furthermore, the Fiesta Van, Transit Connect, Transit Custom, Transit and Ranger all lead their respective market segments in terms of sales.
