Jaguar Land Rover announced the expansion of their Engine Manufacturing Center as part of a £450 million investment in order to meet the demand for their current and future models.

The engine plant opened a year ago, has produced more than 50,000 engines so far and received a total investment of £1 billion. It represents Jaguar Land Rover’s home for the Ingenium diesel engine family, initially launched with the Jaguar XE, followed by the introduction of the Discovery Sport.

This expansion means that the plant in Wolverhampton will increase its operational footprint to 200,000 square meters and thus create several hundred new jobs. Jaguar Land Rover estimates that by 2016 they will employ 40,000 people globally, creating more than 20,000 new jobs in the last five years.

“The decision to expand our operations at the site provides a clear signal of our commitment to meeting customer demand for cleaner and more efficient engines, whilst developing the skills and capability that Britain needs if it is to remain globally competitive”, said JLR CEO Dr. Ralph Speth.

The expansion of the Engine Manufacturing Center will eventually lead to the production of the Ingenium petrol engines, which are currently developed for existing and future JLR models.
