The Urus isn’t Lamborghini’s first attempt into the SUV segment because 30 years ago, the Sant’Agata Bolognese based company introduced the LM002.
With a boxy-shaped and rugged-looking exterior, enough room to sit four people and the ability to tackle hard terrains, it quickly became the coolest off-roader on the planet.
The Lamborghini LM002 was hugely popular. Muammar Gaddafi ordered no less than 100 of them for the Libyan army and Uday Hussein had one for himself too. Keep in mind that the Italian brand produced just 301 of these beasts and this makes it even rarer than a Ferrari F50.
The LM002 has the dual calipers up front and large 12-inch drums in the back, power steering and, depending how gentle one treats the throttle, it could return around 12 mpg (20L/100km), on the freeway, at 60 mph (96 km/h).
But how does Lamborghini’s first and only production SUV feel in more modern times? Well, this is why Jay Leno is here, to put that Countach 5.2-liter V12 engine to the test, with approximately 450 HP (444 PS) sent to the wheels through a 5-speed manual, signed by ZF.
