The new Mercedes GLC will also be produced in Valmet Automotive’s factory in Finland from 2017, as the brand expands the production capabilities of its SUV.
The Mercedes plant in Bremen, Germany will continue to be the main production site for the GLC, which is made there since last July, with Valmet Automotive to produce additional volumes of the mid-sized SUV at their plant in Uusikaupunki.
“Following a strong launch in Europe, a right-hand drive version of the GLC will also be available for the first time from December. We expect this to be another strong contributor to growth,” said Ola Källenius, Member of the Board of Management of Daimler AG responsible for Mercedes-Benz Cars Marketing & Sales.
After the start of production of the new GLC in China as well, the Finnish factory is the third site that will build Mercedes’ mid-sized SUV.
A recent report also said that Mercedes is readying a production hydrogen-powered version of the GLC, scheduled for reveal at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, offering a range of up to 600km.
