The new generation Ford Transit is – like its predecessors – a very versatile and capable automobile, that’s why recreational vehicle manufacturers are offering all-new motorhome models based on “America’s best selling commercial van”.
We all know that nothing compares to taking the comfort of your own home almost everywhere you go, and the latest Transit RV to offer such a convenient option is the Winnebago Fuse – a Class C motorhome built on the new cutaway chassis.
In case you don’t know what a Class C motorhome is, then allow us to explain: Class C motorhomes (also known as Alcove) include vehicle frame, suspension, powertrain and cab, with living area accessible behind the driver’s compartment. In other words, it’s the vanilla approach, as the vehicle has a caravan-style body mounted onto a van or truck chassis.
Still it’s one of the most quickest and trouble-free ways of enjoying leisure activities and returning to a familiar accommodation right afterwards, as Yaro Hetman, Ford brand manager for Transit, Transit Connect and E-Series, explains:
“Many of these customers are interested in outdoor adventures like kayaking, mountain biking, snowboarding and such — more national park than RV park. Sales of smaller Class C motorhomes have been on the rise for the last few years as younger, more active buyers enter the market.”
The Winnebago Fuse goes on sale in January and it will be offered in two configurations – one with a rear bedroom slide-out featuring a queen-size bed, and another with a front slide-out, two twin beds and a rear bath – each mated to a Ford Power-Stroke 3.2-litre five-cylinder diesel engine.
