Better strap yourself into your chair and break out the popcorn because Nissan just figured out the coolest way possible for promoting light commercial vehicles.
Aside from the movie-like poster and the shorter clips, the full-length parody takes us into a very familiar world of action, corny dialog and some pretty funny one-liners. Nissan didn’t just film a great commercial, but somehow made things like van warranty, cargo mounting points and durability sound extremely exciting.
Let’s start with the actors because we’re looking at some pretty interesting Hollywood names.
First and foremost, we have Mickey Rourke doing Mickey Rourke things – which mostly means talking in a very butch voice and looking tough on camera. He also looks pretty fit for a 63 year old guy, doesn’t he?
The bromance continues with Carl Weathers, whose name might not be on everyone’s radar but most guys will recognize him as the actor who played Dillon in the original Predator movie. Yeah, that guy! He was responsible for getting the Governor’s team in trouble in the first place, but then more than made up for it by running off into the jungle thinking he could out-predator the Predator. Fail.
Last but not least, there’s Raymond Cruz which most people remember as the one and only Tuco Salamanca from AMC’s Breaking Bad series. That dude is the definition of intense and he pretty much plays the same type of role here as well.
As for the final name on the ‘poster’, Teresa Ruiz isn’t a big Hollywood star, but she is one of Mexico’s most respected young actresses, with roles in semi-popular TV shows such as ‘The Last Ship’ and the very underrated ‘Gang Related’.
The idea behind all of these clips is Nissan trying to market their commercial vehicles as being more rugged than what you may find from any of their competitors, while at the same time bringing awareness to their 5-year/100,000 mile commercial van warranty.
Currently, Nissan Commercial Vehicle sales are enjoying a strong year-over-year growth, with sales for the NV200 model up 38% for the first 10 months of the year, compared to 2014. The full-size NV Cargo and Passenger vans are also up 15% over the same time period in terms of sales.
Enough about that thought, just enjoy the clips below.
