Nissan’s compact sedan was freshened up for 2016 with a new face that adds boomerang-shaped lights, a tweaked interior plus additional safety and driving aid technology.

That and its starting price of $16,780, makes it a competent choice for those on a tight budged who wish to own a capable, modern sedan.

Depending on trim level and the various upgrades, the Sentra can be commissioned with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, Intelligent Cruise Control, Forward Emergency Braking and Blind Spot Warning. Of course, all these options come at a price, but Nissan says a Sentra SV, with Driver Assist Package, which includes some of the aforementioned upgrades, is estimated to be priced under $20,000.

Fortunately, the potential customer won’t have to deal with the trouble of choosing a powertrain, since the only option available is a 130 hp, 1.8-litre, 4-cylinder engine, coupled to an advanced Xtronic transmission or a more mundane 6-speed manual gearbox for the S trim.

Mind you, the interior has been updated as well, with a new steering wheel (which Nissan says it resembles the one on the 370Z), a new 6-way power driver’s seat with power lumbar, new seat fabrics, and a new center console. To top it off, the instrument panel now features a TFT-type LCD flat panel that displays various info settings, and the car can also be commissioned with Dual Zone air conditioning and an 8-speaker Bose feature.

Nissan said it will provide additional info regarding pricing and optional packages at a later time.
