Sony and its subsidiary, Polyphony Digital Inc, are preparing a major surprise for petrolheads, videogame aficionados and racing fans in 2016, with the release of Gran Turismo Sport.
Together with Kazunori Yamauchi, Sony has announced its plans regarding the future of Gran Turismo at the Paris Games Week PlayStation Press Conference. According to Playstation Blog, the Polyphony Digital team talked about the advances that PS4 offers to allow them to continue improving the overall game – including graphics, physics and sound – to create the most realistic driving sim to date.
Apparently, Gran Turismo Sport will feature two FIA online championships (Nations Cup and Manufacturers Cup) running simultaneously. In the Nations Cup, players will be able to represent their home country, while in the Manufacturers Cup, players will be driving on behalf of a car manufacturer.
Everything culminates with a winner that will be awarded at the FIA prize giving ceremony (in real life, yes), alongside real-life motorsports champions. Sony says this will be a historic moment, as it will be the first time a video game will officially be recognized as part of the real motoring world.
The beta version of the game is expected to begin in spring 2016 and we can’t help to wonder if this is the GT7 Prologue taken to a whole new level.
