The Cayman GT4 hasn’t gotten an RS derivative – at least not yet. It’s even doubtful it ever will. What it does have is a race version, which will debut pretty soon at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
Announced in early October, the GT4 Clubsport is powered by the same 385 HP 3.8-liter flat six as the production version. It has nonetheless been modified by Porsche Motorsport to make it more competitive.
Apart from the mandatory safety cage, bucket seat and six-point harness, it now features the 911 GT3 Cup front axle, a mechanical locking differential and 380 mm steel brakes on four corners.
The irony is that the GT4 is lauded as much for its impeccable road manners as for its manual transmission, which is missing from the 911 GT3. This being a racer, it has swapped the gearbox from the dual-clutch from the… GT3.
Porsche has, so far, kept the car under wraps. Even though it’s supposed to be its entry-level racer, it will reportedly cost US$165,000 – that’s double the price of the road-going GT4.
No one ever said racing was cheap sport, so you pays your money…
