There’s another Renault crossover coming, a bigger one that will go up against the likes of Hyundai’s Santa Fe, and we’ve nabbed the first shots of its cabin.
Positioned at the very top of Renault’s newly formed lineup of crossovers that includes the sub-compact Captur, the upcoming Grand Captur and the new compact Kadjar, this D-segment model that has yet to be named will share its underpinnings with the same sized Nissan X-Trail, but will be dressed in an entirely different body and interior.
The dashboard seen here for the first time is very close in design to the one used on the new Talisman mid-size sedan with an almost identical center console featuring a large, portrait-angled touchscreen for the R-Link infotainment system that’s also found on the new Espace, flanked by vertical air vents.
Expect the crossover to come with a similar array of tech bits such as a head-up display, a digital instrument cluster and hands free parking, while offering both 5- and 7-seat versions.
It’s the same story on the outside with Renault’s interpretation of a Nissan X-Trail model borrowing styling cues from the Talisman and Espace and applying them to a body that has the profile of a bigger Kadjar.
Power will come from the French firm’s arsenal of four-cylinder turbo engines in diesel and petrol forms, paired to either front- or all-wheel drive systems.
Renault’s new SUV will come to the market about the same time that Skoda and Seat will launch their own proposals in the segment in 2017.
