Koenigsegg’s cars aren’t what you call tamed or visually-tempered, but even so, the Swedish car manufacturer tries its best to push the envelope even further.
Apart from the fact that Konigsegg offers a 1500 hp, 1,280 Nm (944.1 ft-lb) of torque, plug-in hypercar with dihedral synchro-helix doors, the exclusive marque decided to make it even more jaw-dropping with the help of another feature.
Koenigsegg calls it “Autoskin” and it simply locks and unlocks the Regera’s doors, hood and boot automatically. It may sound ridiculous but the feature introduces the concept of fully-robotized body panels that can be opened individually or all at the same using the “show mode” option.
If the latter is chosen, then the car unravels before your eyes, robotically metamorphosing to display all its secrets. Apart for the convenience it creates (like opening a door remotely so you don’t have to stretch your rich hands in order to do it yourself), the system has a cool factor that goes all the way up to 11 – even the rear wing can be controlled and that’s just awesome.
Mind you, the doors have built-in proximity sensors in order to stop them in case there’s an object in their way to prevent damage, but we’ll let Christian Von Koenigsegg explain the concept in the video down below.
(function(d, s, id) { var js, fjs = d.getElementsByTagName(s)[0]; if (d.getElementById(id)) return; js = d.createElement(s); js.id = id; js.src = “//connect.facebook.net/en_US/sdk.js#xfbml=1&version=v2.3”; fjs.parentNode.insertBefore(js, fjs);}(document, ‘script’, ‘facebook-jssdk’));
We’ll end the week with the full ‘Autoskin’ video, featuring commentary from Christian von Koenigsegg about the system,…
